Dear Sylvain,
Would you like me to pick up anything while I am out? Do you still like bergamot tea?
I have heard they make things called weighted blankets. Perhaps that will help make you feel a bit more at ease.

So, if you want, I'll offer the reverse instead - if Dimitri also offers to stay, I'll talk him out of it. So it can be just you and Felix. ;) You know how to capitalize on that, right?

So of course he wakes up the next morning with his head pounding and that scratchy discomfort having graduated to sandpaper-roughness. ...And feeling like he’s sweated out most of the water in his body, which is not helped by the small pile of Pokemon flopped on top of him, jeez. He pushes Sooty (gently) away from where he’s situated himself, nuzzled on Grant’s shoulder, and reaches for his Gear to check the time, and… honestly, put off admitting to himself and everyone else that he’s sick.
Tragically, that’s not something he can put off forever. For one thing, Chip is bound to wake up eventually, and then they’re bound to notice that he looks like shit. For another, it’s only a matter of time before any one of the others stops by, so… probably best to give a quick warning, shot off to all the other adults in the group.]
Heads up, wont be around much today, i think I caught something

[Claude, like Felix, doesn't take sickness lightly. And unlike Dimitri, who spent most of the past five years having a breakdown and not really managing his army personally, Claude has been in command of a lot of people grouped together fairly closely. Those aren't situations that lead to someone taking any outbreak of illness lightly.
The fact that Grant is his boyfriend just makes him more nervous. Still, him firing off rapid-fire questions honestly wouldn't be unusual for Claude no matter what mood he was in.]

for claude and annette: creepity creeping to new bark town
...but Felix doesn't have a flying Pokemon large enough to ride, and he hasn't learned how to command Kyphon to carry a rider on the water yet. And he's not about to spend weeks on the road. Besides, he's pretty sure he knows exactly who would like to come with him to pick up Annette.
In seconds flat he's knocking on Claude's door. "Claude. Open up. We need to go. Right now."

Valentine's Day! <3 <3
Here is a top level for us to put the lists of what everyone who participates is giving to or doing for other people for Valentine's Day, and thread out dates and gifts and such if we want.
Felix
But it turns out that having a distinct, scheduled time for these things when you have three boyfriends and a not-boyfriend (Felix does not know the word 'metamour') to coordinate with for dates and such is actually fairly convenient. So he decides to take the excuse he's given. And Grant said that it doesn't just have to be about romance, so a few non-boyfriends are also getting included.
First, Grant. Felix still doesn't feel like he knows Grant all that well and wouldn't really call them 'friends,' but they care deeply for the same people and Dimitri really wants them to get to know each other better, so Grant receives a metamour gift: the U-Turn TM, for one of several of Grant's Pokemon capable of learning the move. This, he explains, is to help Grant keep his Pokemon from fainting during training and battles. (He remembers Truffle's struggles from the day Kyphon evolved.)
Next, Felicity. (Or Jinx, if anyone else asks.) Felix will warp back to Violet at some point this weekend to bring her two gifts. One is the Protect TM for Amalthea, since he knows that Felicity has in the past been reticent to let her baby unicorn get hurt in battle. Obviously, that baby unicorn has become a real fighter since then, but Protect is a good way to keep one's Pokemon safe even while battling.
Felix was also told that this holiday is traditionally a time of eating as many sweets as you can get your hands on. He obviously isn't going to do that, but he does know that Felicity likes them, and she recently made a comment about being willing to do a lot for a good cheesecake...so he brings her a personal-sized cheesecake that's shaped like a Meowth's head and decorated like its face, because apparently you can't find anything in this place that isn't Pokemon-related somehow.
Then, the boyfriends.
Felix brings Claude with him to the archery club, where he's signed them both up for a membership so they can go on archery dates together! If they can't carry bows around with them, they can at least go to where the bows are. Claude also receives a pokeball containing a Stantler that Felix caught on the way to Ecruteak, because it is a kind of deer, and Claude deserves all the deer. (There's a deer/dear pun in here somewhere, but Felix is sure as hell not going to make it.)
Dimitri's gift is not a date, but instead...a painting. Since the group does not have a home base yet, the painting is small enough to fit inside Dimitri's backpack and the frame isn't too heavy, and it has a waterproof carrying case with it. The painting itself is...a portrait that looks very much like one that hangs in the palace in Fhirdiad of King Lambert Blaiddyd and Duke Rodrigue Fraldarius. This one, though, is instead King Dimitri Blaiddyd and Duke Felix Fraldarius. In the lower right corner is the artist's signature: Jinx. And on the back of the frame, a more official signature reads Felicity A. Morais with Jinx underneath.
And finally, Sylvain. First, Felix presents him with two tickets to see a traditional dance performance at a fancy theater in Ecruteak. Then, Felix takes him to one of the smaller theaters where he's signed them both up for dance lessons together, to learn the local dances. And finally, after they've settled into their room for the night on the night of the holiday itself, Felix reveals two Pokemon eggs that are ready to hatch with only a few more minutes of being snuggled by Felix's Flareon and Pyroar. He and Sylvain can watch them hatch into two Ralts, one male and one female. He gives the female one to Sylvain and keeps the male one for himself, so that once they fully evolve, they will have a matching Gardevoir and Gallade pair.

belated valentines ! whoopsies.
Dimitri
Felix is first on the list, happening on the 12th, and happening early. Dimitri wakes him up before the sun has even risen, and coaxes him into putting on warm clothes and sturdy boots. This is all to hustle him over up to the Burned Tower. Apparently it's easy to get lost in the basement via those questionable floorboards that are still intact, but... Dimitri is far more interested in climbing upwards with Felix, as high as they can go, battling Pokemon when they pop up. Then, in a stable spot, Dimitri just cuddles up to him so they can watch the sun rise.
Next is Sylvain, who gets a date on the 13th. For most of the day, Dimitri actually has to work at the inn... but he still makes sure to leave a letter for Sylvain letting him know that dinner is planned. And it's planned at a nice restaurant, too, where grills are installed in their own table, and they can make their own food. Dimitri chose this specifically because of what a warm activity this is, a contrast to the cold and white weather outside. Weather they can't even see, thanks to the restaurant. Let Dimitri feed you, Sylvain. He looks happy when he does it.
Finally... On the actual day itself, Dimitri manages to get a hold of a now recovered Grant. Has he gotten his shots yet? Nope! But that's a risk he has to take, because he takes Grant out for a lovely day on the town as they explore all the different street markets that are available. It's a chance for Ecruteak's artists to show off all their ability... and even a few stalls where people can make their own things, which Dimitri takes the chance to make a couple of simple twine bracelets for Chip, Karako, and Jinx. At some point, near the food stalls, there's some music playing on a small stage, whereupon Dimitri turns to Grant and says he Hates Formal Dancing, but he will try for him.
As the day moves into night, that's when Dimitri comes for Claude, and takes him to a little woodworking class for couples and their Pokemon. Dimitri has Sooter with him, to try and get him into a hobby that isn't Mischief. Dimitri seems more than happy to practice carving for little details, especially to better improve for larger projects he might work on later. This delight is made double as he watches Claude's hands at work, full of praise for whatever he does. Dimitri mentioned it once before, of course, but he really does admire Claude's hands.
But those are all the dates (plus some gifts for the kids as a consequence of one of those dates). There's something else. Something that's gifted to each of the boyfriends on the day itself. Each of them gets a simple chain bracelet, and a charm to go with it.
Grant gets a fat little orb of an Emboar charm with a happy smile holding a white rose. (Not a real one, just a little plastic one for itself.)
Sylain's charm is a little more flat, a Luxray charm where the black portions have some sort of glitter effect so that they shine like the night sky.
Claude's charm is a tiny wooden one, of course in the shape of a Deerling mid-prance in its wooden rectangle.
Finally, Felix gets a "charm" that's more a part of the bracelet chain itself, as it's more flat and in line with the chains instead of hanging from it, depicting an Aegislash.
Dimitri explains that if the others ever wanted to give the others a charm to remember each other by, then, you know, maybe that.... could be a thing.... Excuse him, he has to take Grant on his date now -

Claude
But for a romantic holiday, his first with his four boyfriends, he tries his hardest nonetheless. He lets each of them know that he's going to stagger things with them, since they're all making different plans(and in several cases, meals are involved; you can't shove those all into one evening), but with each of them he takes the first best opportunity around the 14th for what he has planned.
For Felix, he surprisingly plans a night in. He spends a decent chunk of the afternoon shopping, and after begging (read: charming) the use of the kitchen from the hotel owner - which takes a bit of doing, as Claude's spectacular failure and messy kitchen at the cooking contest were in fact broadcast and he's gained some small notoriety from that - he's allowed use of their facilities. What does he use them for? To make home-cooked Almyran dishes, of course, to the best of his memory and ability. There's a nice spicy curry with chicken, some stuffed fish(though Claude's forced to serve them as stuffed fillets instead of whole, due to the fish being Mystery Fish that cannot be identified), and an indispensable rice dish. Claude doesn't bother with desserts, since he knows what Felix likes - and, more specifically, what he doesn't.
Please don't express doubt about the cooking, Felix, Claude will be hurt. And while it's not up to the level of a dedicated Almyran chef, and Claude himself has some minor quibbles and ideas for improvement on his dishes, they're all still very tasty, if also very foreign to Felix's experience. Claude clearly controlled himself in the kitchen today for Felix's sake. Hopefully Felix will like the food!
For Grant, Claude is going to wait for a quiet early evening and then surprise him at his room with an invitation to dinner. (He mentions that he was considering getting Grant an outfit to make him look even more handsome, and then realized he couldn't think of a way to do it - which sounds like a line, but is actually completely true. So he'll advise Grant to just wear his regular clothes.) Claude himself will be wearing his Raihan hoodie and looking comfortable! And then he will escort Grant to a restaurant that Claude's been eager to try - a hot pot restaurant! The kind where big pots of different flavors of broth are actually set into the table, and you get a whole range of ingredients to dip and cook in them. Claude springs for the most luxurious hot pot package, with no less than four flavors of broth and some very high end meats to dip in it. We're talking Poliwagyu beef here.
And afterwards, Claude leads Grant to a quiet cafe where they can have hot chocolate and marshmallows (and pastries, if they have room) for dessert. But probably the best part is that they can get cozy in a secluded booth while they drink.
Dimitri, meanwhile, gets led away by Claude one sunny afternoon, and they warp all the way back to Violet City. There, Claude takes him to a large enclosed building that turns out to be a beautiful indoor aviary, full of all sorts of bird pokémon! They're allowed to feed them, get used as perches(this part is less 'allowed' and more 'resign yourself'), and generally just have an enjoyable afternoon surrounded by happy pokémon.
The aviary is actually a sanctuary for both injured bird pokémon found in the wild and rescued, and for bird pokémon bred by trainers who decided to release them but chose to give them up to a shelter rather than simply turn them loose. As such, visitors are welcome to invite any bird who takes a particular shine to them to become their pokémon, if they care to! Claude chooses to adopt a Fletchling that decided it loved his hair; Dimitri can choose whether or not to snag a pokémon of his own, although Claude - with smiling ominousness - warns him that he may end up with an even bigger team than he expects, and to keep that in mind.
This is explained when they leave and go to a small cafe serving strawberry and milk kakigori, a food Claude chose as much for the texture Dimitri can enjoy as for any other kind of appeal. There, Claude hands over a PokéBall to Dimitri - a level 19 female Patrat, caught in Goldenrod, to help round out Dimitri's rodent collection further.
For Sylvain, Claude instructs the redhead to leave a certain afternoon free, and to dress his handsomest. Then he comes to Sylvain's room, also wearing his best...only to mysteriously reveal they'll be staying in. Not long after, there's a knock on Sylvain's door, and some caterers come in to set up...an entire fancy tea service, even more elegant than anything Garreg Mach could provide. Sandwiches, cakes, cookies, and of course tea - Sylvain's favorite, which Claude no doubt found out through Dimitri or Felix. They even set up a radio with soft classical music playing. Claude and Sylvain get to enjoy a tea date together in Sylvain's room, and afterwards, after the caterers have removed the dishes(and the table - but not the radio), Claude takes Sylvain's hand with a smile and asks if they can have that private dance now.
And, while he's not exactly a romantic partner, Claude would feel remiss if he didn't express his fondness for Jaskier today. So, while of course they can't do anything together at the moment, what with Jaskier being off in the Sevii Islands somewhere, Claude makes sure to send him a little gift - a small hair clip, with a short handwritten note:
I hope you're enjoying your vacation with Geralt! I know this isn't a buttercup, but I thought something more tropical would be fitting for where you find yourself now. I'm sure it'd look lovely tucked behind your ear, and I hope Geralt will agree when he sees it on you~
let's pretend this arrives before Claude gets Jaskier's secret

A Few Days Later...
2/15 - OTA - as is common with dimitri's life, everything goes to shit at once
A very solid decision, which is ruined the second he had steps out into the hallway of the inn and is approached immediately by one of the Indeedee before he'd been able to get to Grant's room. It's just a simple little thing, a note on a rather nice card that simply reads ... He looks like he gives good hugs but it feels weird to ask.
...He gives the Indeedee a hug just in case.
After that, well, he's far too busy to really stop and read all the notes he keeps getting throughout the day. He has to look after Grant, for the day, and then there's the woodcarving class with Claude at night... A day like that, plus everything else with his boyfriends, leaves Dimitri with a pocket full of notes and no energy when he finally collapses into bed.
It's only in the morning after that Dimitri finally remembers them, although only barely. It's as he's blearily looking for his toothbrush that he comes across the notes with Kent still attached to his head. Still blinking sleep out of his eyes, he picks them up. He's expecting nothing deeper than the first one, which he places upon the bedside table -
I mean, he'll probably never ask...but what if he does? He's going to see it sooner or later, and it's one of my biggest scars. He'd be so upset...and it's not his fault. Not really. Besides, everything turned out fine, didn't it? It's better if he never knows...
He reads it. Again, and again. The first time, it doesn't quite make sense. The second time, he doesn't want it to make sense.
The third time, he forces himself up onto his feet while too scared to look at the other notes, leaves Kent behind, and stumbles to Dedue's room.
He knows Dedue - knows the way he writes, he speaks, knows that he would always be truthful. This isn't from him, but - he might know who it is from. He's from the future, too, and he would never lie to him. If he is overreacting, if he is reading too much into this - Dimitri tries to calm himself as he approaches his friend's door with the notes pressed against his chest. Dedue will give him the facts. He can see if this is happening to anyone else, too, or if his terrible luck has struck once again.
Except... There's no answer when he knocks on the door. Dedue always answers; he's the kind of things who deals with things immediately when they change. It's why he's so good at gardening and cooking, Dimitri thinks. This isn't right. Except when Dimitri goes to get his Gear, types out a message even as he's hurrying back to Dedue's room, there's...
There's nothing.
Nothing on the Gear, no name he had been eager to see again.
Nothing from the room.
Just silence in the hallway... and the sound of soft crying.
Without thinking, Dimitri dares to try the door knob. It's open. His heart feels like it's come up to his mouth, now. He can't breath. Dedue wouldn't be so reckless as to leave his door open. And that's because... When he opens the doors, the room is empty, and a Budew is hiding behind a chair. She immediately steps out, however, when she sees who it is. More than steps out - she darts over to Dimitri, even as he takes an unsteady step inside only to fall to his knees.
"Where is Dedue?" he asks her, Gear clattering to the ground alongside the notes as he offers cupped and trembling palms to the Budew. Her only answer is a teary look before she launches herself into his hands.
Oh.
An ache starts to pull behind his eye.
He's gone.
He's gone, and it's all Dimitri's fault. It's always his fault.
Dedue's door will be open, a plain and obvious fact to anyone passing by, and those peering in will find an equally obvious sight: a hunched over form with his back to the door, familiar in the brilliant blue and furred cloak draped across his shoulders, and an Indeedee gently patting him while glancing up in concern at an equally worried Dean.
no subject
He has been...concerned, with the Indeedees going around. A lot less than he would've been in the past, honestly; secrets are being revealed, but his biggest ones are mostly out there already. There's some worry that this might be how Annette or Dedue or Lysithea find out, because he hasn't yet figured out the best way and time to tell them, but...well, if it happens, it happens. And freaking out about it, or doing ridiculous things in fear of it, will only expose him if it hasn't happened yet. Better to sit tight and await developments than to clumsily play his hand.
But...well, the secrets he's received haven't all been good ones. (One was basically a death threat, or an I-wish-this-could-be-a-death-threat.) He can't help worrying about what kinds of secrets the people he cares about are getting...and that means keeping tabs on them. And naturally, given Dimitri's only just recovered mental state, that's who he worries about first. So, in a period of time when no Indeedees are bothering him, Claude messages him.
And gets no reply.
Under other circumstances, that wouldn't be too worrying, but today...well, they're all in the same place, aren't they? Maybe he should just go check on him in person.
Passing by Dedue's room, he notices the door is open with faint surprise...and, well, glances in as a matter of course. He's nosy, after all. He's not expecting what he sees at all, though, and it checks him mid-stride as though he'd walked into a wall.
There's no mistaking that cloak. And there's nothing normal or comforting about seeing that cloak over someone holding that posture. (The worried pokémon are just extra confirmation, but his brain factors them into the scene without really acknowledging them; all his focus is on one form to the exclusion of everything else.)
All of Claude's alarm bells start ringing at once, every mild worry crystalizing into heart-dropping certainty. Something's gone wrong.
"Dimitri?" He heads into the room on quick feet. "Dimitri, what's wrong?"

2/18
Since arriving at Ecruteak, he's had something of a routine. He would wake up in the morning, visit the members of their traveling party, and then return to his room to fully prepare for the day. Sylvain would find Felix while he ate breakfast, pass Inda off for training, and then head off to do some work around town.
Not today. There's no knock at the door, or too loud humming through the walls. There's no warm smile to greet his boyfriends, and -- perhaps most notably, he doesn't show up with Inda. Most concerning of all is the fact that any attempts to reach his Pokegear will ring until they reach his voicemail.
But there are small mercies. To whoever decides to open the door, they'll find Sylvain in bed. He's only sleeping. But despite Inda's faint whimpering and frequent prodding, he doesn't rise. He doesn't stir for any voices, nor at any touch. His breathing is deep and steady, his cheeks are warm with life, but he does not wake.]
no subject
Except today he isn't.
So Felix goes back to the room to pick Inda up himself, grumbling all the while. But when he gets there, Inda's...unhappy? Afraid? Upset.]
What's the matter? [Then, a little louder,] Sylvain, you overslept. I'm taking Inda out with the others.
[...huh. Sylvain must be very deeply asleep, if it's this late and he's not stirring even now. Inda's pulling on his sleeve with an urgent look on her face. That's not normal.
Felix climbs onto the bed and shakes the other man.]
Sylvain. ...Sylvain?
[A hollow pit opens up in his chest. This isn't fair. This isn't fair. Not now. Goddess, please...]
Sylvain.
[He turns Sylvain over to lie on his back and pushes red curls out of his face with both hands--they're shaking. Oh. He even tries lifting one of Sylvain's eyelids, like a child might, but there's no response. He slowly pulls his hands back. Inda climbs into his lap with a faint whine and his arms curl loosely around her, but he feels sort of numb.
He should...find someone. Call someone. He should call Dimitri--no, he can't spring this on Dimitri while he himself is still reeling, not after Dedue. He should call Claude. That is something he can actively do, instead of sitting here powerless.
So go on, Fraldarius. Do it. Do something. Anything.
No, as it turns out, the only thing he can do at the moment is lie back down and curl up against Sylvain and stare into space. There's a part of him that tells him he's being absolutely pathetic. He doesn't care.
He'll just stay here until someone comes to find them both.]

Evening of 2/18
[ Given the state of things, and how all the adults seem to be... Preoccupied, Jinx comes to a decision: absolutely no one is cooking tonight, if they even have access to a kitchen. Takeout is... expensive, admittedly, but hey. Certified money cat Allium is here and ready, and she wants to make sure there's options because she doesn't know what everyone even likes when it comes to what would be Japanese takeout to her.
Meanwhile, as she waits for the delivery to be made, she's using the coffee maker to heat up water and make some cups of tea for whoever needs it. One might see her walk by with a carefully balanced array of mugs, even. Her door is open, just in case. It's a good thing she's used to doing this sort of thing for a large group, however. She only looks up from the mugs on her counter when she hears footsteps. ]
[ b - for felix ]
[ Admittedly, she needs a bit of encouragement to go in, but she does manage it. Jinx is carrying a plate with some takeout- steamed rice, with his entrees chosen by the others. Normally she would give bigger portions, but given the state of everything it's better to assume otherwise. If he needs more, they can get more. She knocks on the door to alert him of her presence, but otherwise... ]
Felix? We got dinner. I don't know how hungry you are, but I brought you some.
[ c - everythings on fire and the kids are here with
pizzatakeout ]Just in case you want to do something specific with her during this evening but neither of the other two options aren't cuttin it for you.
B...
But as a result, when Jinx comes close to the door, she might hear music coming from inside the room. And when she opens it, it's still playing--an instrumental piano piece--and Felix has just finished whirling around in vague alarm from where he's standing in the middle of the room at the knock. His expression at first is a glare, surprised and severe, but when he sees who it is, he blinks and moves over to the small turntable to lift the arm from the record and stop its spinning.]
...Felicity. What are you doing here?
[It's not an accusation, just a question. As far as he knew, she was in Violet.]

Felix & Jinx 2/22 teatime
When he woke on the 21st, he cursed himself for scheduling multiple teatimes for the same day. How did Byleth used to do this all the time without wanting to strangle everyone at the end of each week? He managed, mostly by letting his guests do most of the talking--which just went to show that he'd learned the art of teatime well from the professor--but he still took a lot of that day to himself after he'd had way more tea than he'd really wanted.
Today, though, there's only one teatime waiting for him. Around mid-afternoon, he ventures out of the room to bring the kettle from Grant and the entire sampler box over to Felicity's room, along with teacups he asked the hotel staff to bring. He knocks on the door.
"Hey. It's me."
birthday tea!!!
She still has him return to the pokéball when Felix knocks, just in case someone else gets that fear too. The less stress on everyone, the better. As she opens the door, she remembers something, however. (She'll get to it in a moment.) ]
Hey- come on in.

2/27 - 1/2
He wakes as if nothing has happened, as if he hasn't been to another world and back. As far as he's concerned, he hasn't. He can recall dreaming, yes, but like most of his dreams, he can't recall the details. Perhaps his friends had been there, perhaps not. But if he wakes feeling strangely empty, he passes it off as hunger. When it persists into the afternoon, he attributes it to the melancholy of the journey he makes.
In time, the feeling fades. He meets his boar and his teacher. He fights a war he never wanted to be in. People die; Sylvain watches countrymen and enemies die in the same, bloody battles. Every night, he lays down and wonders what side he's on -- they're all sinners, this he knows. But one day, the history books will write down his name, declaring him either a hero or a villain. Nothing he does will change that, just like nothing he's done before has ever changed anything else.
All that matters is who wins and who loses. The flip of the coin will determine his fate.
Or so they say. There are times when he recklessly tries to take his fate into his own hands. Times when he's seen charging enemies and thrown themselves in front of their blades. Sometimes he's alone. Sometimes, he hopes. Each time he lives.
There's only one time where he wonders if he might not. A lancetip, or maybe a sword or an arrow, he can hardly remember the difference between any of them anymore. What he does remember is Felix. The weapon had been on a direct course for something vital on him. And while Sylvain has long since prepared himself to live without love, he will not live without his best friend.
In the end, Sylvain is taller and broader. The damage that would have killed Felix hardly does anything to him. The scolding he gets from Felix hurts more, but even that's worth it.
Eventually, their boar becomes a prince again. Their teacher becomes a general. More blood is spilled, and beloved family members meet their end. Nevertheless, they march onward, until they're spilling through Enbarr's gates and striking down and Emperor turned monster.
They win.
As it all draws to a close, Sylvain celebrates. He'd laughed and danced and gotten smacked by Felix twice and Ingrid thrice. They'd smiled and made promises to their king. For them, everything is okay again. They have their lives to lead. For Sylvain, it is a farewell. This will be the greatest night of his life. What will follow will only be misery.
At the end of the night, Sylvain lays down to rest. The next day, his prince will become King; his teacher is already an archbishop. The world changes before them, but one thing remains the same: Sylvain. He is Sylvain Gautier. He will return to his territory and take the title of Margrave from his aging father. Before long, he will marry a woman he doesn't love, have children until one bears the crest that he hates, and he will die without knowing any sort of happiness. Yes, he might try to make happiness for those that follow -- no Gautier will ever know his fate ever again -- but it doesn't change the fact that the shackles are already bound to his wrists.
The moon sets far before the sun rises. In that bleak darkness, alone as he is, Sylvain weeps. He hasn't wept in months, perhaps even years. But he's alone now, and will be alone for the length of his entire life. He remembers the melancholy that had hung over him so many months ago, and all at once he finds that he can no longer bear its weight.
He's still weeping when he wakes in his bed in Ecruteak.
2/2
[Sylvain rolls onto his side almost immediately, seeking out the warmth that's certain will be there. It's hard to make sense of what he's feeling -- the grief of the six months he's suddenly felt hit him, or the same amount of adoration that he wakes up to every day. He wraps his arms tightly around the first thing he finds -- the small form of a Steenee that immediately startles awake.]
Shh, shh, it's okay sweetheart. I'm okay. [He isn't, but Inda doesn't need to know that. He keeps her held close with one arm, all while moving closer to Felix. The other arm is tucked into his hair, drawing him close enough to press their foreheads together. He knows the movement will wake him, he should probably be thinking of what to say. But the grief hits harder than before, and it doesn't let up.]
B.-Open to all
[Sylvain doesn't sleep for the rest of the night. He weeps (and occasionally even sobs) onto Felix's shoulder until the sun finally rises. It's only then that he's able to pull himself together enough to face the world. He doesn't want to -- he doesn't want to tell anyone what he's remembered, and what he didn't remember. But he gets up all the same, carrying Inda with him until he reaches the common area.
If he had the energy, he might have gone door to door greeting his friends, apologizing for his absence and cracking a few jokes. For the last six months, he's worn that mask again, and it's hard to break the habit of false smiles. Inda is his one saving grace in that regard. She looks like she wants to cry every time he tries to smile at her. For her sake, she doesn't. For his own sake, he simply sits with her on a chair, knowing that everyone will file through eventually.
He just might not notice right away, seeing as how his head is currently tucked into Inda's leaves.]
hey fuck you

OTA - backdated to before Sylvain breaks everyone's hearts while waking up
[It's basically common knowledge that Dimitri has two jobs. The first, and his primary one, would be his maintenance apprenticeship at the inn, as he learns from the owner's and their very handy Gardevoir. It is nice practical work, which Dimitri appreciates, and something that has him constantly doing things.]
[The other is the job he immediately heads to after his inn shift is done, and is something of a breather. He's explained it to the others as a simple art modeling job, which is likely not a surprise to any of them. Dimitri does have a rather impressive physique, so, hey: why not?]
[However, with Everything Happens So Much-ing again, well... Dimitri still diligently does his jobs, of course, and even occasionally comes back with the occasional gift like snacks from the inn owners or some tea packet that one of the artists swears by. For a good worker with a decent personality and a lot of baggage, well, it seems like he's well liked.]
[But the thing is, occasionally he forgets something, and so he ends up sending the occasional message that's always along the lines of "I forgot to take my dinner with me to the art studio", or maybe it's his backpack, or a spare set of clothes, or whatever else.]
[Whoever brings whatever to the art studio, they'll be directed to the right room, where there's nothing but a relaxed silence and the sound of some podcast playing patiently in the background. Knocking will have some art student answer the door, revealing that most of the room isn't visible from the doorway thanks to a carefully placed folding screen.]
[Realizing who this is for, they turn and call into the studio. "It's for Mr. Dimitri!"]
[There's the sound of rustling, chalk or pencils or paintbrushes clacking as they're put down, and then Dimitri pokes his head around the screen.]
[He is wearing a robe. His cleave is very visible.]
Oh! Hello - I apologize for all of this.
B - Closed for Jinx
[Jinx doesn't get to deal with this nonsense... because she gets formally invited. Dimitri lets her know ahead of time when they'll be going, and then he picks her up from her room.... With a large suitcase of sorts held by his Emboar.]
[The walk to the art studio is pleasant enough in Ecruteak, and the building is like any art school type of place. The studio is large, too, for a good dozen or so students, relaxed and chatting to each other before the session starts.]
[Dimitri gestures to one seat and an easel that's been set up.]
They didn't mind setting up an additional spot for you, if you'd care to use it. You do not have to follow along with what everyone else is doing, if you do not care to.
[ B - Art Time ! ]
But then she included a painting in a thank you message, and a late Valentine's Day card for Zuke- and a commission from Felix for Dimitri himself. This place did weird things to her and that was the only logical explanation.
When Dimitri gestures to the spare position, she looks up at him almost curiously. ]
They're doing live model sketches, right?

ANGY
But maybe it was too much to hope for.
Uncomfortably familiar thoughts started to creep up their back as soon as Sylvain had fallen asleep. Even if no one said anything to them Chip could feel the heavy weights on everyone's shoulders, the dark mood stifling them. They saw how Claude held himself at a distance, how Grant felt so lost, Dimitri closing up inside his grief. Felix's snappiness and refusal to move from Sylvain's bedside...it felt too familiar. They remembered their mother crying herself to sleep so many nights, how that man had gone from distant to scornful despite all their best efforts. Even here, stifled as they are...it's their fault. They're just a poison.
There's no way the rest didn't know. Grant especially, even if he would never say anything (too kind, too gentle to do what they really deserved) but realize the root of their misfortune. If Chip hadn't run off to get Dedue, would he still be here? Was that the moment their curse took root? Or was it even before that, when they first took Dimitri's hand? When they gave Sylvain those s'mores?
But no one said anything. Not even Felix, though Chip had hardly given him chance to do so--why were they still pretending? Why wouldn't they just--do something, break the fake image, just get it over with? The frustration and fear built and built, but Chip held it inside--until one morning the lid just wouldn't stay shut.
It's not that they seek out confrontation--they're desperate to stop it, but it's always inevitable. No matter how much they try to stay out of the way, someone always finds them.
And it always ends the same way.
no talk they angy
It's his Schrodinger's Last Day. Dimitri frankly isn't certain when Sylvain will wake up, and if any of them will want to stay in Ecruteak for much longer when he finally does. They've been in the city for a good month; their stays in other towns have been far less. Perhaps the road will help bring a sense of normalcy to it, or the next town they go to will have a fresh start.
With that in mind, he's let his employers here at the inn know his difficulty, and they've kindly agreed to keep him on a case by case basis. Dimitri is rather grateful for it all, truth be told, and he wonders if he truly looks that bad for them to take such pity on him.
He'll gladly accept it, honestly. His pride isn't great enough to bristle against that, not with the tidal wave of emotions and exhaustion that has come over him this part of the month.
So he's tidying up this work week as though it were his last, going around with the owners' Gardevoir to make sure that everything is in order. That's how he stumbles upon Chip, rubbing at his eyes as if that can help his own exhaustion and depression just... go. He stops mid-step when he spots them, blinking.
"Oh, Chip..." Shoot. He really does have to look presentable, now. Guiltily, he reflects that they've all been in such a state lately... He hopes it hasn't affected them too bad. He had hoped to make this a nice stay for them, after the mess that was Goldenrod. "What are you doing about here?"
