Not that Felix is usually much for celebrations at all, but this? This could help Dimitri feel like that victory belongs not just to 'that other Dimitri' but to him, too. Even if it hasn't happened yet.
Only then does he notice that the broccoli has somehow made its way back into his box. He narrows his eyes at it, and then at Dimitri. "I'm not eating it. If you don't, it will just go to waste." He picks it up with his chopsticks again and moves to put it back in Dimitri's box.
At this talk of Saint Indech's Day, Felix hums in vague agreement. "The weather is so mild here, it hardly makes sense to check in on anyone anyway."

Fhirdiad was liberated on the last day of Harpstring Moon.
Hm.
He snaps out of it when Felix dumps the broccoli back in his box, and Dimitri sighs. "I had all of it made for you, you know... It isn't polite." Although with that said... He nudges Felix's knee. "Look outside."
The sunrise is starting, washing the sky with brilliant oranges that melt into soothing purples, chasing away the darkness. And from their position in the Burned Tower... They get to see how this light begins to softly brush against Ecruteak.

But he does look outside. It's a sunrise, of course, and Felix supposes that it's pretty, but he's seen plenty like it before. Still, it's important to Dimitri, so he obliges and watches the sun come up over the city--at least, until he can justifiably shift his gaze to watch Dimitri instead. Unlike Felix, his prince has always known how to find beauty and wonder in even the smallest things. Felix thinks that once, he used to be able to see it too, after Dimitri pointed it out to him. Now, he's not sure he knows how anymore.
But seeing Dimitri happy is wonder enough for him.

Now, without that goal hanging so heavily over his head even as the whispers occasionally snap at his heels, he wonders what else this sight can mean for him. Maybe it can mean just this: sitting, eating, being alongside Felix and knowing they are mostly at peace with one another.
He thinks he would like that.
"Isn't it nice?" he murmurs, finally looking over to Felix. "Do you remember when we used to watch sunrises together?"
no subject
"And I remember that half the time, one of us would fall asleep by the end of it. Occasionally both of us."

This time, when he puts something in Felix's box, it's meat instead of a veggie.
"Sometimes we had to be picked up and carried back to bed."

The sunrise and that look in the king's eye bring a memory to the surface of his mind: my dawn-eyed Lushka, Dimitri said. It was the first time Felix had heard that nickname since before the Tragedy. It remains the single most sincerely romantic thing anyone has ever said to him, which is why just thinking about it brings a faint warmth to his face.
Still, he gives Dimitri a wry look. "And then we'd argue over who fell asleep first."
He frowns, ready to eject the broccoli from his meal yet again, before he sees that it isn't broccoli this time. "What is this for?"
no subject
Sometimes it was Sylvain, sometimes Glenn, or their parents... Anyone who loved them, and didn't mind that bit of work.
Dimitri is going through his own food again when Felix speaks up, and he blinks a couple of times. "Don't you want it?"
no subject
Felix glances down at the bit of meat and then back up toward Dimitri, bemused. "Don't you? I'll eat it if you give it to me, but why aren't you eating it? It's yours." His own box, meanwhile, has no more meat left in it.
no subject
Just like he thinks Felix needs to look like this more, over a simple little bit of meat. "If I cannot make you eat healthily," Dimitri says, smiling over at Felix without thinking about how much love is packed into his own expression, "then I would rather you eat happily. I don't mind giving some of my food to you."
no subject
Only after that does he pick up the meat with some rice in his chopsticks and eat it.
"There, satisfied?"
no subject
Giving that bit of meat over was worth it.
"I think I am."
