cethflayn: (i cannot deny i am small)

[This post starts with a picture of the shore at Olivine, sun beaming down, a Chikorita curled up in the sand to take it in.]

I have been enjoying my life in this realm so far! It has already been over half of a year since I arrived, and yet, it does not feel like so much time has passed at all.
While it is a bit lonely at times, I have found many delights to rejoice in, and today I encountered yet another one that I wish to share.

[Next comes...pictures of sandwiches. Really pretty sandwiches. Very tasty sandwiches. Honestly, they're the kind you get at the PokeMart for a couple hundred Pokedollars, but with that said, they seem quite nice!]

I am not...skilled...when it comes to cooking. Why, before coming here, I must confess that I had burned boiling water a few times while on kitchen duty. My companion taught me how to prepare potatoes, but a young lady cannot subsist on potatoes alone. So, my meals often come from the local stores here.
And these sandwiches...
They are simply divine!
So much beauty and flavor in a tiny package!
I did not know the simple art of preparation could enhance an experience, and yet it has!
But the most incredible sandwich of them all has to be this one!

[Next is a picture of...oh. A lot of fruit and cream sandwiches. Some are being snacked on by Pokemon, but there's still more. Holy crap, Flayn, how many did you buy?]

I have never before encountered a sandwich one can eat for dessert!
The fruit is wonderfully bright against the cream, like...like gems of flavor!
And the fact that there is whipped cream holding it together is so unexpected, but so perfect!
It is much like a fruit and cream cake, but you can hold it in your hand and not make a mess! And the bread tastes good with it, too!
Are there more dessert sandwiches in this world? I have seen images of an "iced cream sandwich", and while I am familiar with iced cream, I am not sure how well it could hold its shape as a sandwich. But oh, if there are more, please tell me!
I want my Pokemon and I to try them all!

[Oh God, this is. So pure. So sweet.]

You know what I've recently realized?

[Something related to his Ditto, no doubt, as he's currently filming it. It's snoozing under a sunbeam like some sort of pink, blobby cat.]

I've had Jello for almost seven years, now, and it's never tried to breed with my other Pokémon, or even expressed the desire to do so. Not. Once.

[His dramatic pause is somewhat ruined by the blob's sudden and surprisingly loud snore. He ignores that and carries on.]

Should I be very happy, very worried, or very thorough in looking beneath every piece of furniture I own for long lost eggs?

[personal profile] a_sin_for_him
[Lust is broadcasting from the kitchen of the Ecruteak apartment she's currently sharing with Timothy. She's looking a bit frazzled and behind her....are cats.]

[So many cats. Twice as many Espurr as usually are roaming around in the background - most of them without the trademark bows and bow ties of Lust's brood - along with a number of Glameow, Skitty, and Meowth. From the looks of it, they've been having a grand old time getting into everything. Is...is that an entire box of cereal spilled on the table behind her?]

I don't know where they all came from! I opened the windows to air out the apartment and two hours later...

[She gestures behind her. As she does, a Glameow takes a loud, flying leap off of a cabinet onto Lust's shoulder. The 'gear is dropped with a mild curse and the screen is filled with curious, feline faces before Lust retrieves it.]

Let this be a warning to anyone else considering a ground floor residence.

[personal profile] cethflayn
There has been a most intriguing invitation delivered to me today.
It talks of something called a "prom", and from what I can glean of the contents, it is a ball of some kind?
I have only been to a ball once before in my whole life...

Truly, I wish I were more excited, but my traveling companion has...gone home, as I understand it.
I miss him, and I sorely wish he were here to also attend a ball.
They are the most wonderful, magical of experiences. Every person should get to go to one at some point.
Are these a usual occurence?

Hello again, everyone!
This is Flayn. I have not been doing too much as of late, but I did realize recently that this would be an important month where I am from!
In Fodlan, this "March" would be the Lone Moon, the very last month of our calendar year. During the Lone Moon, we are meant to reflect upon past partings and new acquaintances as winter draws to a close. It prompted me to think on how many new friendships I have made in arriving here, and the great potential that spring holds for new things! Especially when I have yet to see so much of this world.

Did you know that many flowers of this world are similar to those in Fodlan? I did not! And yet, when I took a walk this morning, my Pokemon and I found some wildflowers already in bloom! True, many of them were dandelions, but I thought it would be nice to make some garlands out of them!
We had a very delightful time together, and I encourage everyone to do the same while the weather holds, even if the wind is still a little chilly.

[At the bottom of the post are pictures! They are...not taken well, the angles somewhat off and most blurry, but you can still get the gist of what's going on. There's a Chikorita proudly wearing a too-large crown of dandelions, the chain lopsided on its head; there's a Meowstic critically eyeing a collected bundle of clover flowers, both white and purple; there's a Snom idly gnawing on blades of grass as an Applin dozes next to it in a patch of sunlight.

And, lastly, there's a selfie of Flayn! This one is actually a pretty good picture; she's laughing, her eyes crinkled, her twin curls of hair speckled with daffodils stuck into her locks.

Is it an important piece of news, or something revolutionary? No, of course not. But for Flayn, sharing such a simple moment in time is incredible.]

[This humble broadcast is...well, angled very strangely on the face of a young girl who has not made a video debut on the network, but has contributed via text, and usually she would just do that again. However, it is important for Flayn to learn more about how this vastly advanced technology works, and these moving pictures are ever so favored. The video is a bit too close for a viewer to tell where she is exactly, besides "inside".]

...Oh! Oh, it is working!

[That is the sweetest Disney Princess Voice you ever did hear.]

Hello! This is Flayn. I have not made one of these moving portraits before, so please excuse me if it is not as polished as all of yours. The functions are still...a bit of a mystery to me.

[Steven did his best to teach her, but some things only become clear with experimentation and practice.]

Anyway...I wanted to ask about...what it is that everyone likes to do with their spare time. I understand that there may not be much of it when one is always traveling, but...there are things in this world that have piqued my curiosity. Like the 'video games'!

[There is a distinct inflection of "How do you do, fellow kids?" in Flayn's voice when she says "video games", and it is the most disorienting thing to hear come from someone who looks like they're maybe fourteen at the oldest?]

From what I have found on my own, the Poke'gears have such games placed in them already, though I am sadly not very good at them. But I have also heard that there are 'consoles' upon which you can purchase and play many of these games, and that they can tell long and complex stories! It does not sound very convenient for a life on the road, but I must admit, I find the concept intriguing.

Hm, what else...oh, right! Might I also ask what sort of books there are to read? [Flayn comes a little closer to the 'gear, her eyes sparkling with excitement.] The selections in places like the 'Department Store' are a bit overwhelming, and I thought it might be easier to get recommendations on things to read. I would particularly like to read stories with sweeping romances! Apparently, my brother had such books removed from the monastery library, and I could not even find a simple book on dance. But there is no one here who can dispose of such things, nor to stop me from enjoying them! I would be most grateful for suggestions.

[She pauses, glancing to the side.]

Ah...that is all I have to say, so I shall be going now. But if you decide to respond, I will send you a 'text message' in return, as they are easier for me. Hopefully that is acceptable, and thank you in advance!

Ha, he's like a little cartoon character, isn't he? Like a mascot for a dump or something.

[Those words might sound a little harsh if they weren't being spoken with what sounds like some of the purest affection this side of Steve Irwin talking about a poisonous snake. And, in fairness, the Trubbish being shown on-screen would make an excellent waste-disposal mascot and does look more than a little cartoony.]

[Not the least because it's eating a small pile of what looks like actual discarded wrappers and things. With a few berries and PokeBlocks mixed in.]

Flayn and I are passing through Goldenrod City, and I found this guy stealing a bunch of our garbage. At first I thought he was really hungry and desperate-? And- I mean, he was, but I figured he was eating garbage cause he couldn't find anything else. But I guess that's what he actually likes!

[The Trubbish looks up for a second and waves at the camera cheerfully before continuing its slightly nauseating tuck-in.]

Kinda reminds me of home, a little.

[He is not elaborating on that, sorry.]

Oh, and- uh.

[The camera turns to face Steven, finally.]

I'm not exactly sure what Valentine's Day is? But the decorations that are up everywhere look really nice.

[It's the middle of winter, and that means that a lot of Carly's posts are happening inside, thanks. She's even propped up her pokegear on the caravan cabinets, handily not looking at the front door, where her picture from Jack is. Anyway. Coffee brewing, cup being prepared, she rambles.]

You know, it's taken a bit, but I think I'm really starting to settle into things here? I mean I don't know if it's 'settled' settling, I'm moving more than I have my whole life actually if I think about it, ah...

...Where was I- Oh! Right! There was this thing I used to do every day, just to see how it would go! It was a little bit of fortune telling, [she explains, waving her hands about while waiting for the machine. Unseen to Carly, something milky looking is creeping around it, moving toward the mug she's been setting up...]

I had six cards with the six different elements, and each one had a different fortune... ...Course I don't have those here now, [she sighs, blindly grabbing for the coffee pot as it beeps.] ...I don't even know how I'd remake them here..! There's what, 18 types? That's way more fortunes, and I'd have to think of them this time! I'd need to do a lot of crowdsourcing for-

[It happens in an instant. Carly starts pouring the coffee in. The milcery, who was in the cup, jumps out and shakes off the scalding fluid with an angry screech. Carly meanwhile manages to drop (and somehow not break) the pot to the side while screaming herself.]

HHHIIIHHHHH!!!!

[.........................................they'll come back after about ten or twenty minutes.

With the mess cleaned.

The coffee mug on a bed mounted table.

This is too much.

[Shadowmaru, what's wrong now? What are you freaking out about now? Apparently, the source of his ire is... uh...]

[It's a Deerling. Curled up in some beach grass with his Growlithe.]

Why on earth would I want so many of these creatures if I have no desire to fight with them?

[Behind the Deerling, his Venipede looks into the camera like on the Office. Come on, buddy, some of them love fighting. Stop denying them.]

Not only this, but I have discovered another egg in my care as well! Why do they keep coming?

[The feed opens to the sight of a concerned-looking fruit, squeaking and hopping rapidly in hopes of gaining someone's attention. How did it turn on a pokegear without hands or fingers? Well you'll be happy to know that with a little panicked bouncing and a whole lot of concern, you can accomplish anything!

Eventually it will realize that the video is streaming, and with a triumphant chirp it rolls backwards out of view to reveal... someone that has fallen flat on their face! Seems that someone's "mother" decided to shove the poor girl out the door without even asking her how good she is with legs. What a faux pas! Learn a thing or two about social cues, huh?

Well either way, the young woman, clad in orange flannel and a tan cowboy hat covering her mess of blonde hair, slowly turns herself over with a groan before rising to her knees.]

Ugh, dang it. [The disdain on her voice is almost as heavy as her southern accent.] Can't a gal spend more than a few weeks at home before y'all come dragging her back to this crazy world? Now I gotta get used to two legs all over again...

The monster gods gave me a Cloud Pony!

[Whaddup, Pokéworld, it’s ya boi, Krieg. He sounds kind of annoyed.

Today’s video features a wide open field and a newly-hatched Galarian Ponyta. It frolics over to where Krieg is filming it and bumps its short, soft pony snoot against the camera. Krieg’s large hand appears from the periphery and gives the little creature’s neck a gentle scratch and some pats.]

Go play with the Mud Pony.

[The little Ponyta blinks its liquid, round eyes beatifically into the camera before whirling around with a cheerful whinny. It gambols over to where a giant Mudsdale is peacefully grazing a short distance away. When it reaches MP, it begins to folic in an adorable and energetic circle around the huge horse, who stoically ignores it and continues to get its breakfast on.]

Next time I wanna punch the god. Why do the monsters get to have all the fun?

As I predicted, I came home to a surprise of sorts.

[Lust holds a particularly tiny Espurr up for the gear camera. Apparently the egg she posted about before the world tried to end has hatched. Its eyes are barely opened from its nap, and it seems completely un-bothered by being picked up and moved - if it even noticed it's been picked up and moved. The tip of its tongue is poking out of its mouth.]

He needs a French name but I don't know any more French names. I feel so poorly, taking this long to give him something as simple as a name of his own...

[ACTION -- BRIGHT AND EARLY DEC 3]

[SLAM!]

[In what felt like a whirlwind, James Walter of Hawksaw found himself yanked unceremoniously from sleep, bundled through the front door of a strange house that was home to an even stranger woman, and thrust onto the frigid streets of a town he'd never seen before.]

[Isn't that where Mom leaves us all?]

[JW shivers and hunches his shoulders. The wind tugs at his purple shirt as he peers into the gloomy winter sky. To him, this place seems dim--as though the sun can't be bothered to get out of bed. It isn't that early, is it? Is it his eyes? He knows he can't always trust his eyes, but the scenery being extra dark and a little grey is not one of their usual tricks.]

[Instead of lingering on that, JW turns his attention to the strange ball clutched in his hands. Mom told him to "take good care of it", whatever it was. He scowls, his mind buzzing with a thousand questions. What right did that stranger have to tell him what to do? Where was his house? Where was his town?]

[JW throws the ball to the ground and turns to storm away in search of answers when a bright red light catches him off guard. The light swirls and forms itself into the shape of a...something.]

E-yyeeahgh!

[JW trips over his own long legs and nearly falls right into a neat little bush in front of a neighboring house. The thing that came out of the ball trundles after him and quacks in concern. JW plants his hands against the wall of the house and raises a foot, preparing to kick the thing if it waddled any closer. If it's not flesh-blob monsters, it's werewolves, if it's not werewolves, it's fairies, and if it's not fairies it's...whatever this thing is! Where was Deuteronomy when he really needed her?]

I don't care what you are, but if you take one step closer, I'm gonna kick your head off!

Psyduck?

[The little psyduck tilts her head and takes an unsteady little step backwards.]

That's right, you can buzz right off!

Psy--yy-y?

G'won, git!

[The feed snaps on to a familiar and yet unfamiliar sight. The familiar part is someone squinting suspiciously into the camera. The unfamiliar part is that this fellow isn't entirely new and yet here he is, doing that thousand-yard stare most newbies do when confronted with a Poke'Gear. A few residents of the world of Pokemon might remember his face, but he certainly won't remember any of yours.]

[The gaunt man sighs, looking worn out. He's had to take in a lot of information in a very short amount of time. The very corner of a young Psyduck's face can be seen just below his elbow and she hesitantly brings up a little paw as though she wants to tug on his sleeve. However, she resists.]

[Behind JW is the den of a charming little New Bark house--a little old lady in town has been kind enough to let him bunk there in light of recent, slightly apocalyptic events. She can be seen making tea just off to the left. Somewhere, a television blares the latest EV News broadcast. It's hard not to recognize the cries of Zapdos.]

So you just--

Speak up into it, hon.

So you just talk into it and hope somebody has something to say back? I appreciate the tip, but I don't think this kinda thing is for me.

[He leans back and his shoulder moves, suggesting he's about to mash the End Video And Forget About This button when something catches his eye. He looks at something off-camera and suddenly the scene is a blur. There is the loud SLAP of plastic against glass as JW slams his Poke'Gear into the window to show the camera the scene outside. Someone is walking down the road shoulder to shoulder with their Piloswine and checking their mail.]

Hey? Hey, lady? Ma'am? I don't wanna freak you out, but I think there's a mutant boar outside. We need to call the police! Stop-- stop laughing!

[So, Flayn would not have come to these functions on the Poke'gear herself - Steven would have to teach her, and it's taken her some time to get used to just how advanced technology has come to be in this world. This...not-Fodlan world, she's been told. It's still hard to really understand and accept that, but she is trying.

It's hard when a sickly Espurr you take under your wing keeps giving you looks with them lavender eyes that remind you way too much of someone you used to know. But she's trying!!!]

Excuse me, I hope I am not interrupting anyone by "posting" this message, but I would like to ask a question.
This weather...is it normal for this time of year to be so dreary?
I ask because the Pokemon in my company seem to be worse for wear because of it.
Dear Macha seems to have lost all of her plantlike luster, and when we met Edel, she could not stop shivering even when we dried her thoroughly.
Surely there must be something one can do in the meantime to improve their health?
All of this is very new and strange to me, and I would like to do right by those left in my care, but if I do not know how to help them and I cannot heal in the ways I am accustomed...I am afraid it leaves me at an impasse.
Would anyone happen to have advice on such matters?

Respectfully yours,

Flayn

Uh- Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl. Peridot? I hope one of you guys is somewhere this thing is broadcasting to.

[Confused young man broadcasting on the network asking for people who probably aren't here? Must be Tuesday, metaphorically. At least he doesn't seem to be panicking, yet.]

This is kind of embarassing? But I think I might've kind of. Sleep-warped. Somewhere.

[That's a thing that can happen, right? It wouldn't actually be weirder than a lot of the other stuff that's happened in his life. Not by much, anyway.]

I thi-i-ink I'm still somewhere on Earth? But it doesn't look like anywhere near any of the warp pads we've used before. And I got inside this house somehow? There was this woman-

[He pauses a second, brows furrowing, before shaking his head.]

Look, it's not important, just- call back, if you guys get this message, I'll try figuring out where I actually am. Heh, I guess worst case scenario I could try bubbling myself and-

[As he speaks, his hand seems to scratch at his stomach, or maybe clutch at his shirt a little in a kind of nervous gesture- and then he stops, face freezing and eyes widening.]

What's- no.

[The camera blurs, Pokegear apparently forgotten as Steven- it looks like he's checking under his shirt?]

MY GEM-
