Log:

As night falls on the final day of an excellent beach prom adventure, the staff of Resort Gorgeous usher their guests out onto the beach for one last grand sight to top off the experience. Big, fluffy resort towels have been laid out for people and Pokemon alike to sit on, and locals are off to the sides, handling large and beautiful kites with incredible care. They come in all shapes and sizes, and each depicts a Pokemon you may have seen wandering the shores or swimming in the oceans during your time here. They're incredible works of art all on their own, and as the wind picks up, watching them lift off into the sky becomes an artistic experience in and of itself.

A hush falls over the gathered audience as the kites sail up, up, up into the sky. Small children begin to release lanterns that float up to join them, and the kites dance around them in practiced loops and twirls. In turn, they are illuminated from all angles, a play of shadow and color in the dark, starry night.

But as the show goes on, it starts to become apparent that starlight and lanterns... are not the only things lighting up the night sky.

A growing point of electric blue light that might have been overlooked at first among the rest of the stars becomes brighter and brighter, and bigger and bigger, quickly becoming what is clearly a long and jagged tunnel opening up in the middle of the sky over the island, accompanied by a sound like a clap of thunder.

There's barely enough time to react to the opening of space before, like bees from a hive, ghostly white creatures emerge, at least two dozen of them, drifting serenely down in the direction of the beach-- and, unfortunately, right towards the show, even as the locals gasp in shock and try to pull their kites in.

"What in the world is that?" one person cries out.

"Where did they come from?" shouts another.

But the biggest, most obvious reactions come from the wild Pokemon in the area.

Frightened Wingull take off in enormous clouds from their cliffside nests and scatter to the winds, the sea grows choppy with fish Pokemon of all kinds poking out from the waves to examine the bright light only to splash hurriedly back down, and even the Pyukumuku try to roll themselves back into the ocean, expelling their innards to help pull them across the sand. The landbound wild Pokemon don’t have the ocean or the sky to retreat to, and begin to swarm and stampede in their efforts to either find somewhere to get away from the strange, unnerving creatures...or stand their ground and attempt to fight them. The reaction from the wild Pokemon is so strong, in fact, that the strange creatures seem to panic themselves, jittering this way and that, only for some to get tangled in the strings of the retreating kites. Once ensnared, they start to emit an unsettling cry as they struggle to get free, lashing out with their tentacles at anything that comes near as they come tumbling slowly through the air towards the ground.

It’s chaos on the beach. Some locals try to yank their kites free, or send out their own Pokemon to try and defend themselves. Others run, scooping up children and Pokemon and yelling for others to do the same. Wild Pokemon are flapping and scampering everywhere, so panicky that they’re having a hard time telling friend from foe. The strange creatures are floating all around, lost and fighting with trained and wild Pokemon alike. But the question is...what will you do?

Hermione sees the state of Ash's Raichu and almost swears. "Yorokobi, over here! Heal Bell!" she calls out, hoping that the move would at least heal the worst of it's injuries. Yorokobi flies down a little unsteady, still trying to get used to his new wings, and casts the move over Ash and Holokai.

Hermione is frantically trying to remember the layout of the island from the maps she's seen. "Indoors is a bad idea - too many ways to get trapped or the building could come down from an onslaught of attacks. Jungle? The trees might discourage them from following and there's more cover."

"The wild Pokemon are freaking out through. If they're not here fighting, they've probably already fled into the jungle and are still gonna be wound up and panicking. Adding people there might result in someone getting hurt." Ash reasoned, keeping an eye out for more of the creatures.

The Heal Bell helped calm him at least, although it didn't seem to help Holokai. "He's not - he's psychic. He tried to read their auras but it really unsettled him, so he's suppressing his powers. I dunno if it's hurting him or not but he's completely unnerved by those things." Holokai nodded, holding onto Ash. He looked like he'd just been exposed to some prime nightmare fuel.

"Shoot, you're right." Hermione chewed her bottom lip, eyes darting around trying to think of a safe place they could retreat to.

"Beach is out, indoors is out, jungle is out. We can't get onto the water, that'll be even more dangerous. Darn it why didn't I study the layout of this place better!" she berated herself.

"Duck!" she suddenly yelled out pushing Ash and Holokai down as an attack shot by overhead.

"Damnit-!" Ash ducked when told, Danny quick to avoid the attack as well. The Lucario snarled, putting himself between Ash and the Nihilego and drawing his paws together to create a glowing sphere of blue energy. He threw the ball at the Nihilego, nailing it in the face with the Aura Sphere and knocking it back from them and causing it to give another eerie shout.

"All I can think is that we get their attention just on us, and then knock them out before they cause more damage." Ash admitted. He recalled Holokai, seeing that being out would only cause his Raichu more distress.

Hermione watched the Nihilego floating around overhead, wincing at the sound it emitted.

"I don't know, there's a lot of them," she replied, doubtfully.

"But we have to try something. Maneki is my strongest here - I left most of my others back home. I can get mine to support and cover yours - mine aren't strong enough to go head to head."

"We just need their attention, so we can keep them away from the people who can't fight." Ash repeated, mostly to remind himself. "Just...fuck if we could get them back in those tunnels then they could go back to doing whatever the hell they were doing on the other side of those things!"

Still he pulled out a Pokeball and unleashed another Pokemon, a large, battle worn Dhelmise who immediately didn't like the look of this situation. "Alexander, clúdaigh!" At the command, Alexander threw out his anchor, wrapping it around the Nihilego and trapping it in place.

"That's easier said than done - that's a portal somewhere, I'm sure of it. If any of our pokemon, or us, get sucked into it, we may never find our way back," she replied, as she called for her other pokemon to bait the Nihilego away from the masses.

Not that their efforts were super effective. Jez was just pissing them off with her popping in and out antics, and tugging on their tentacles, and Elkanah was crooning at them in his Barry White voice, but it was hard to hear him in all the ruckus. Eques, Maneki and Yorokobi were having slightly more success, although the Togetic was still unsteady with his new wings. Majestic, well....Hermione recalled her. The Feebas was just too low a level to handle this.

"Elk, sing at this one!" she yelled, pointing at the one Ash had trapped. If they could get them to sleep, maybe they could figure out a way to push them back towards the portal?

"Do any of your pokemon know psychic?" she called out to Ash. "Maybe we can psychically move them back to the portal?"
