Area Zero Field Trip
Early in the week, Riegfried and Soy sent out a recorded video: an invitation for all guests on this Paldean vacation to join them on a little field trip into Area Zero within the Great Crater of Paldea. It is a spot known for fascinating explorers, academics, and seasoned battlers, however is generally off-limits due to the dangerous nature of the very powerful pokemon within. Which makes it the perfect place for a little study trip!
(They add that the trip was approved by the Paldea League, which is in charge of granting such access, but isn’t the idea of heeding the call of adventure no matter what more thrilling?)

Anyone interested in spending two days in Area Zero will be asked to gather in front of the Academy on the morning of the 9th, from where flying taxis will take everybody to the Gate Entrance. From there, warp panels bring you inside the crater, to the first of many research stations. While most of the space within is dedicated to computers and scientific equipment, the sleeping quarters have plenty of beds to accommodate you all overnight. You are also met here by several of the scientists stationed at this research station who have an offer for you. While you can just explore the area on your own, you could also contribute to the general body of knowledge and understanding and perhaps complete an assignment or two. Completely optional. Really. If you can resist five harried scientists giving you big Lillipup eyes. Outside the research station, Area Zero awaits. The grassy ground spirals down in a corkscrew pattern with occasional caves branching off. A wide river with rushing waterfalls cuts its own way through. Light sparkles off of crystal formations and gives a glittering appearance to the whole space, which is otherwise dimmed by a foggy mist. Area Zero lives up to its reputation when it comes to mystery, but as for danger? The Pokemon up here seem to be a little stronger than others encountered in Paldea, but all things considered, they hardly seem worth being warned about. But there is the sense of something more. Maybe you hear clicks and whirs coming from something unseen, or see a colorful glow that fades before you can reach it. You may simply be unable to shake the feeling you’re being watched. And even at the higher points of Area Zero, you may outright see the source of all this: Creatures that resemble familiar Pokemon, but behave like machines. Despite their appearance, the PokeGear recognizes them as true Pokemon. These Pokemon are reclusive until the trip leads to Area Zero’s depths, but within those underground caverns it’s a different story. More of the Pokemon there share that robotic quality than not. Some display aggression, some fear, and others curiosity. This is their home, and visitors from the outside world are so rare. How can they be sure what to expect? Anyway, have fun, be safe, and make sure you are back at the Research station at 10PM on the 10th. We are only allowed to leave 10% of participants behind! |

[HE'S GOING TO RAIN. ON THE PARADE. RAIN ON IT. RAIN-] You can't really just 'catch up' on sleep that easily. For every day you get a bad night of it, that's going to be about a week of time you're a mess over it.
[He read it in a book-
Anyway.] Also by that justification, we should all just not sleep the entire two months. You have to see how ridiculous that is...right?
no subject
[ THE UMBRELLA OF INSANE LOGIC WILL PROTECT HER FROM THE RAIN ]

....Well we'll be leaving the country behind for probably the rest of our time in this world, so that's something...
But that's not the point-! If you keep passing out like this, you're not going to enjoy the weekend either!
no subject
Therefore, I challenge you to a Pokemon battle.
no subject
oh no]
Uh-
[Oh god.]
...First question, it's fine if you don't...want to answer but...What pokemon do you have?
[he is going to absolutely crush violet and he's not sure how to feel about that.]
no subject
[ To wit, she points at the level five Espurr that's been there the entire time, which is now staring at Emporio.
o_o ]

Got it...
[Emporio's mind is reeling. Does he even have any pokemon that low levelled anymore? All his recent egg hatches passed the 20 mark by now. His Fidough? Except no, she doesn't like combat. Sous Chef? Crap, he can't do that, the little guy stayed at Level 1, that would cause the opposite issue and he does want to make Violet take a rest. Just.
Without the curbstomping.
Emporio thinks. And thinks.
And inwardly grimaces.
His best shot....................................is ghost type.] Okay. One on one then...I'll try matching the level, but I'm going to be honest. They're....going to be a little overlevelled.
...But they also only have two moves so it should hopefully still be fair... [He's devolving into muttering for a minute, but hey!]
It should be a fair fight. That's what's important!
[IT'S TIME FOR...DOWSER THE LEVEL 16 GIMMIGHOUL,]
no subject
[ She doesn't seem distressed by the very long pauses Emporio took, and merely begins walking away, the Espurr toddling along after her. ]
weeps sorry for vanishing, allergies have been horrid,
[No problem with that! Outside they go, to the grassy stretch of land in front of the lab base.]
So...have you had many battles before now?
[how much is he going to hate this and also himself-]
no worries, life happens
[ THE SITUATION JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. ]
However, do not think you must go easy on me. I have been studying battle techniques and strategies since I first arrived, so I believe I am well prepared for what's to come.
no subject
...I just also didn't want to just bring out my strongest...
[Ahem. Well, he fishes around for his pokeball, and prepares to toss it.]
Ready when you are!
no subject
Violet herself takes a breath, claps her hands together... and then decides to put her, um, "game face" on. ]
BRING IT ON, CLOD! WE ARE HERE TO BRING THE PAIN!
no subject
holyshit]
Uh-
[Right well. He shakes himself, and tosses his ball forward.] Okay-! Let's go, Dowser!
Start off with a shock-!
[Violet would be forgiven for assuming that means something electric. Emporio doesn't really do traditional commands is the thing.
Which is why Dowser, a tiny little gimmighoul that's even smaller than Loki, immediately jumps forward to try and Astonish the other.]
no subject
[ Alas, Dowser is more-leveled, so higher stats, so higher speed, so Astonish lands first! Loki is hit so hard he actually falls over onto his back, wiggling. ]
... Huh?
so hysterically fake out shouldve landed as a priority 3 but dw i got this-
Okay! Dowser, strike two!
[Dowser has two moves- Astonish, and Tackle. Unsurprisingly, they're about to use Tackle. Quick Loki! Use what you learned!]
lulz my bad, just wanted violet's failure to be EXTRA fail-y
A-hem.
LOKI, USE SCRATCH! CLAW THEIR EYES OUT!
[ Loki is tackled down! And perhaps has a sliver of HP left. It tries to scratch, using it's stubby little arms, but even if it does hit, it's not going to do much. ]
ALL GOOD
But it...phases right through???
Emporio gives a sympathetic wince.] Another point of importance...type match-ups. For weaknesses, a move can still connect and do something. But for a few, there's something called a 'type immunity'- Scratch is a normal type move...
...But Dowser is a 'ghost' type; neither of the two types are capable of hitting the other.
[Yet, Emporio isn't giving another command just yet.
Is he trying to give Loki a chance to slide in another move..??]
no subject
Number 3 isn't looking good. ]
GIVE THEM YOUR WAR FACE! USE LEER!
[ Loki's eyes glow red, trying to lower them stats! ... while still doing that creepy stare. ]
no subject
The only reason it failed was that the command was late after all. If dear Loki was commanded to use Fake Out again, it'd work.
But!]
One last blow! [One last tackle, more like, but in he comes!]
no subject
Violet ceases shouting, tilting her head and cupping her chin. ]
... The victory is yours, it appears.
no subject
...But...yes. ...You remember our deal, right?
[TAKE A NAP, VIOLET]
no subject
[ She holds out her Pokeball, allowing Espurr to retreat inside of it. ]
Though it will be difficult to rest, considering all the thinking this battle will have me go through.
no subject
I could check for any pokemon who know Hypnosis though- that tends to knock people right out.
