Area Zero Field Trip
Early in the week, Riegfried and Soy sent out a recorded video: an invitation for all guests on this Paldean vacation to join them on a little field trip into Area Zero within the Great Crater of Paldea. It is a spot known for fascinating explorers, academics, and seasoned battlers, however is generally off-limits due to the dangerous nature of the very powerful pokemon within. Which makes it the perfect place for a little study trip!
(They add that the trip was approved by the Paldea League, which is in charge of granting such access, but isn’t the idea of heeding the call of adventure no matter what more thrilling?)

Anyone interested in spending two days in Area Zero will be asked to gather in front of the Academy on the morning of the 9th, from where flying taxis will take everybody to the Gate Entrance. From there, warp panels bring you inside the crater, to the first of many research stations. While most of the space within is dedicated to computers and scientific equipment, the sleeping quarters have plenty of beds to accommodate you all overnight. You are also met here by several of the scientists stationed at this research station who have an offer for you. While you can just explore the area on your own, you could also contribute to the general body of knowledge and understanding and perhaps complete an assignment or two. Completely optional. Really. If you can resist five harried scientists giving you big Lillipup eyes. Outside the research station, Area Zero awaits. The grassy ground spirals down in a corkscrew pattern with occasional caves branching off. A wide river with rushing waterfalls cuts its own way through. Light sparkles off of crystal formations and gives a glittering appearance to the whole space, which is otherwise dimmed by a foggy mist. Area Zero lives up to its reputation when it comes to mystery, but as for danger? The Pokemon up here seem to be a little stronger than others encountered in Paldea, but all things considered, they hardly seem worth being warned about. But there is the sense of something more. Maybe you hear clicks and whirs coming from something unseen, or see a colorful glow that fades before you can reach it. You may simply be unable to shake the feeling you’re being watched. And even at the higher points of Area Zero, you may outright see the source of all this: Creatures that resemble familiar Pokemon, but behave like machines. Despite their appearance, the PokeGear recognizes them as true Pokemon. These Pokemon are reclusive until the trip leads to Area Zero’s depths, but within those underground caverns it’s a different story. More of the Pokemon there share that robotic quality than not. Some display aggression, some fear, and others curiosity. This is their home, and visitors from the outside world are so rare. How can they be sure what to expect? Anyway, have fun, be safe, and make sure you are back at the Research station at 10PM on the 10th. We are only allowed to leave 10% of participants behind! |

Maybe... If it's not a satellite, it's at least a UFO. [Technically, they're now called UAPs, Jotaro-]
It's aggressive. Moreso than some of the other robotic Pokemon here. Trying to get data on it but it's difficult.
no subject
Hmmmnnn...
[Carly does well to stay hidden with her father-in-law at least, and seems to be taking this seriously; all that crime really Does pay!] Normally I'd guess something like that will be 'steel' type, but there's been so many robot-things down here that there's no way that's going to be for sure...
[She crosses her arms, lips pursed with thought.] I'll need to pull out a heavy hitter...did you see what it attacked with?
[If it's aggressive, you saw it attack Something right?]
no subject
[Hello? What????]
It was screeching and letting off electricity, discharge, I think. It's why SP and I have been hesitant to try fight it. Even if SP is strong, we wanted more data before we just... attacked.
[Like you clearly are planning on doing. Seriously?]
the joke is that fire and poison are also ground weak jakhgjdfkhg
[Literal aliens Mister Dad!] Hm, electric sparks...
[And uh, yeah seriously, she's got a team of 100s over here big guy, she's got this-]
Well, when in doubt, ground's a pretty good call~ It's strong against steel, and against electric!
Okayyyyy, Kyusei~!
[And out comes Kyusei, a shiny quagsire. With a happy BLAP as Carly comes over the rocks, she beams and points toward the strange pokemon.] Give it a nice mudslap so that we can deal with its accuracy~!
QUAAAA!
[AND SO IT DOES
AND SO IT HITS
AND SO- holy shit that pokemon Really doesn't like ground-]
Hooooo! Look at that!
no subject
Good grief.
[Well, that's got it's attention. The Iron Moth locks on to the Quagsire and shrieks before it starts flapping its wings. Is that.... whirlwind?]
no subject
[oh no whirlwimb]
aaAAAAHAHAHAHAHA-
OH NO-
[There goes Kyuseiiiiiiiii-
....which means....someone else....possibly not even Carly's...is coming out....]

Primeape?!
[Jotaro's Primeape is one of his new catches and definitely not someone he should be bringing out a foreign Pokemon. Jotaro scrambles for his Pokeball but before he can fire spins out of the foreign Pokemon, entrapping Aggression in a ring of spitting flames.]
Damn it! Aggression! [No good! Looks like they have a fight on their hands.] It's faster so we gotta hit harder then. Aggression, Rage Fist!
Carly, how do you break out of being trapped?
no subject
You need a move that lets them switch out! Something like U-Turn, or Flip-Turn or, or-!
[THESE ARE THINGS THE MONKEY PROBABLY DOES NOT HAVE.]
no subject
Jotaro gives a small frown. The Iron Moth begins to heat up and releases an Acid Spray straight on the Primeape. It doesn't do much damage but the burning has Aggression distracted, his senses dropped.]
Keep focused. Rage Fist. You're doing a lot of damage!
[As Aggression hits again, it seems the Iron Moth agrees. Aggression is doing a lot of damage. It begins beating its wings and a huge gust hits, slamming into the Primeape.]
Aggression! [Jotaro catches the Primeape. The Primeappe doesn't move.]
no subject
[Carly sing-songs when she panics, the more you know. This is stressful though. That's a lot of punching. That's a lot of punching that's doing damage but somehow not enough damage. One can see Carly muttering- What the hell typing is it if ground hit that hard but not fighting?
But then-]
Oh geeze, he's fainted..!?
[erm]
no subject
But not nice enough. Aggression is down. But before Jotaro can get another Pokeball out, the Iron Moth shows just how aggressive it is. It blasts both the unconscious Pokemon and Jotaro with a Discharge. Jotaro instinctively tries to shield his partner with his body, taking even more of the blast.]
ARghH!
[Carly better take over the battle! And ignore how the "fainted" Pokemon in Jotaro's arms is twitching. Don't worry about it.]
no subject
Kyusei, get back out there and throw more mud..!! [She yelps, the quagsire happy to oblige. It's sure taking out the opponent with ease- and in the meantime Carly can look to Jotaro.]
Let me get a look at you- you took that head on, even a pokemon would have a rough time with that..!!!
no subject
Aggression?
[Aggression screams and then collapses. However, something grey with long, creepy tendrils remains standing in the same spot Aggression just was. For a second, Jotaro thinks it's a spirit or a stand before he realises its his Pokemon. Did it just-]
ANNIHILAPE!
[Kyusei will easily finish the Iron Moth off... but he's immediately gonna get JUMPED by a very angry monkey.]
no subject
It.
Well, Kyusei's kind of a tank so they're just taking it, but the look on their face is a huge Why.
Carly's is too, come to think.] W-wh-wh-
Did he just evolve?! Hey, stop attacking Kyusei!!!
Quag.... [bro he jus livs here...]
no subject
I think he did. Dunno how... but guess conditions were met. I've never seen a Primeape like that before.
Annihilape!!!
Yeah, that. [Aggression keeps beating ineffectually at the poor Quagsire. Jotaro rolls his eyes and returns the raging monkey into his ball, effectively shutting him down.]
Weird.
no subject
[Since they have a moment of reprieve here, she'll quietly get her pokegear out to grab the 'dex function. Alright, let's hear what this has to say...]
no subject
... Unfettered by the limits of its physical body?
[Jotaro stares at the spot where his Annihilape was. A thin frown forms on his face as he puts links together. And then... he sighs.]
...I knew Aggression hates getting into fights it can't win and being upstaged but... Good grief...
no subject
[That's so....intense...]
Annihilape sure sounds appropriate then...that's going to get really out of hand if they aren't trained properly though...
[There's a concerned look toward Kyusei, but the quagsire fortunately seems entirely unbothered.] ...Then again, these pokedex entries exaggerate a lot I find.
no subject
Regardless of how true it is, we will have training to do. That's fine. I'm used to rough-housing punks in line.
[Jotaro looks at Aggression's Pokeball one more time before he properly stores it away.]
Maybe I'll try keep Aggression away from your Quagsire. More for Aggression's sake though.
no subject
[Ah- She shakes her head, waving the concern away.] Heheheee, good to see you caught that at least..~! Kyusei wouldn't do anything I'm sure, but if Aggression got like this over that last fight...hooo....
no subject
[At the mention of being cursed, he shoots her a look. Was that a smart remark referring to Chester he heard?
...Anyway, Jotaro looks to the Quagsire.]
You're either a really good trainer or you've been here a long time to have so many powerful Pokemon. I never asked how long you've been in this world.
no subject
...Ahhh...well, geeze, next to Jolyne and that other kid I couldn't really say I'm much, but I've been around long enough to make the Aurora League at least..! And Jolyne and I have been married longer than we weren't, here!
no subject
Hm? I thought Jolyne's only been here three years. [Jolyne, did you also get married obscenely young???]
no subject
[Ah-] What, Jolyne? Oh geeze- well it's a bit complicated actually...I mean I've been here almost five now, but she actually disappeared for a bit during that time after all!! Seeing her back again...
[Well. Hm.] You know, I get a feeling you understand the idea somehow.
no subject
Mmm... [So it's nonsense from this world. He should have figured.] ...You'd be surprised with what I'd 'get'. [He sighs and shakes his head. That's a 'yeah' he gets it, Carly. Obviously.]
