[He gave Shiro a wink before allowing some quiet time while they waited to hear a response.
Astarion felt...good about all this. He felt like he did something good, and right. Maybe he pushed some poor guy for just doing their job, but he wanted to fight for Shiro. His good friend.]
no subject
Well - I do appreciate it. A lot. [One of the people who'd ever gone to bat for him and his piloting was Sam Holt. So long ago. One of these days, maybe he'll get to see that man again, thank him properly.] Really, I -
[He's saved from further yammering by the official returning. Explaining they can't just give every yahoo a full plane pass. And since the testers are off for the weekend... but what they can do, they add, with a Look at Astarion, is a tourist plane.]
What's that? [It's a plane that allows for licensed pilot control in case of emergency. And does not leave the atmosphere. Like a training plane. Shiro makes a face. But...] Yeah, okay. Let's just do that.
[He's got a few tricks up his sleeve-] You're coming, right, Astarion?
no subject
Astarion bit his lip as Shiro tried collecting himself and speak to the official, keeping quiet the entire time. None of what they said made sense to him in any fundamental way. He couldn't help that, all of this was too outlandish for him to place. He just had to make it make sense and have full control of his surroundings.
He gathered that this wasn't exactly how Shiro pictured it. For a moment, he thought about trying to fudge the rules further. He was a rule breaker by trade, if it just meant he could have more fun.
But...Shiro. Hm.
He was thinking hard about this entire thing when he was spoken to.]
Hm? What? Me? Coming to this "spaceship"?
no subject
[He spreads his hands in a sort of, of course gesture. Like this is the most obvious thing in the world. Of course, Shiro would want someone who'd helped him to also come up with him. It just makes sense, far as he's concerned.]
[There's paperwork to fill in, because of course there is. There always is. And throughout it all, Shiro's looking more and more like a kid signing up to race go-karts on a professional track. Or getting to drive their first sportscar. But, eventually, he finishes, and the official leads them toward the waiting "tourist plane".]
[Shiro stops, though, glancing at his friend.] I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to.
no subject
Oh, what the hells. I got this far, might as well see it to the end. It might be fun. I get to see the stars through Shiro's eyes.
<small>[Soooooo where to? Now that he was his official tag-along.]
no subject
[Which is probably not. The most reassuring thing. But he feels like it needs to be said. No matter what happens out there, up there, he's not going to let anything happen.]
[They're out on the landing pads now. The tourist plane isn't anything special, but it's familiar enough - pilot and copilot seats, a couple in the back. But aside from that, it's pretty straightforward. He hops up through the hatch, making his way to the pilot chair - ducking in the small space.]
[He's still grinning, settling in at the controls.] Whenever you're ready, strap in.
What happened to the coding in that last tag huh
He always felt uncomfortable leaving things like this up to others. But Astarion had to remember it was his choice to do this so whatever happens he had to take responsibility for it.
How annoying.
It was easy to do as instructed, advised. This was too new otherwise. Following Shiro’s example on strapping in was easy enough and soon he was secure. Ready as he will ever be.]
All set here.
ghosts
[As much as he wants to just shoot into trick flying, into cutting the engine and free-falling in almost zero-g, that's not something you do with a first time passenger.]
[He turns in his seat, regarding Astarion with the most sincere face he can muster.]
I will not let anything happen to you. And if you want to land, I will.
[That said, he starts putting the plane into gear. Starts warming up the engines, checking the dash. Everything looks green. Radar looks clear. This plane doesn't look like it needs a runway, thankfully. Just straight up. Perfect.]
[So... far slower than he would have, if he were on his own, Shiro levers the plane up off its landing gear.]
1/2
2/2
That was probably nothing. Nothing worth of note.
Just someone offering protection in an unsure first time experience. Not letting anything happen to him.
Ah, yeah. That was nothing.]
Be free, darling. By all means, let me experience what you do. Don’t hold back on my account. Behinds, being slow and easy is boring. I’m sure you’d agree.
Go on, I can handle it.
[That flew out of his mouth.]
no subject
Okay. Just - I warned you.
[Because Shiro is, deep down, extremely deep down, like buried in bedrock deep down, a daredevil still.]
[Since they are clear, it's time to slam the throttle and jolt forward at a speed probably not recommended. There are general lines of air traffic around, and Shiro avoids those. There's open skies down one of the routes, and that's where he aims. Kicking the plane up even higher to avoid anyone else.]
[It's a little bit like a roller coaster. And Shiro is like a kid in a candy store.]

That wasn’t expected. Oopsie.
But he was good at lying and acting happy, so his fingers clenched on the seat. Was it possible for his knuckles to be paler? He felt his stomach go to his throat and his eyes go to his toes.
He was dead silent the entire time, fearing is he opened his mouth he would vomit his breakfast.]
LMFAO OOPS
[Maybe someone who wasn't Shiro would have written it off. But he's flown too many times, with too many people, not to realize what's going on. Slowly, he levels the plane off, settling for making easy, gentle circles over the open route below.]
[He feels elated. He feels alive. The only thing that would have made it better would have been the stars laid out all around them. But this is still... this is still amazing. This is what he was born to do.]
Sorry. We'll take a break from the dramatic stunts...
no subject
Ah, quite the daredevil aren’t you…didn’t expect it, I admit.
I was right about you…full of surprises.
[That got him to look around a bit. They were away from any other flying vehicles. And the sky looked different.]
Where are we, exactly?
no subject
[A lot of trouble. But that's not important at the moment. He's not in trouble for it, here, and he pulled out of the stunts before it got too bad. Or too much for his passenger.]
[At least he didn't drive a hoverbike off a cliff this time.]
[Where are they? He almost answers in coordinates - a reflex. An immediate reaction. Catching himself only at the last moment.]
We're over Route 34, I think. Goldenrod is north of us. You can kind of see it if you look close. [Out of the cockpit window.]
no subject
[Still, it was pretty. Still yet. He looked at Shiro for a moment, catching their reflections on the cockpit window and the constant blinking radars.]
How high up CAN you go?
no subject
Well...
How high do you want to go?
no subject
He shot the grin, back. Adding his own flare of mischief in it. He loved this side of Shiro, he wanted to see more of it. Everyday. On that face of his.]
Technically, you're driving, darling. How far can we go until we get into trouble?
[Let's be DANGEROUS.]
no subject
Far enough and fast enough... I can probably get us weightless.
[It won't be for long. He's not sure how hard he can push the plane just yet. Or if putting it into free-fall will activate some recall protocol. But suddenly?]
[Suddenly he feels willing to try.]
[He's already swinging the plane around, towards the water and away from the route - safety precaution.]
no subject
[He did one final smirk, and even one wink for good luck. As if to pressure him further. Show him, Shiro. Show him what you were made of.]
Show me what you can do.
[He braced himself again. Ready for anything now. Ready for chaos, and FREEDOM. Shiro needed this, he deserved it.]
no subject
[He'll wait a moment or two. Because yeah, he wants to make sure his passenger is really ready, and not just saying so. Once he's sure, then... that throttle is slammed into high gear.]
[The plane jolts forward. Hard enough, fast enough to throw even Shiro back in his seat a bit. He can't help it, he shouts - it's a victorious sort of yell, and banks the plane upward. Higher.]
[It should be shaking, or jostling. Somehow, though, it isn't. They're climbing higher and higher, and while it's fast as hell, there doesn't seem to be any turbulence.]
no subject
With the word, they were off. Astarion braced himself until he listened to Shiro's thrills. The screams of joy and energy.
He couldn't help it, soon enough there was a choir of thrills. Astarion never knew he had such an emotion in her dead heart, but he was showing it. For once, he felt alive. For someone actually undead, it was EVERYTHING.]
no subject
[And then glances over.]
Want to feel something crazy?!
no subject
Maybe now, he finally understood why Shiro liked this life so. It was a feeling of freedom unlike anything he ever felt. His heart could soar, his body could fly. He could do anything here.
He wanted to now do it all.]
Show me. Let me feel it already, what are you waiting for?
no subject
[They're high enough. The plane's flying steady enough. This should work just fine. He climbs up a little more, and then...]
[Then he cuts the engine.]
[The plane seems to hover in place for a moment. Suspended. In that moment, gravity falls away. Everything hangs, weightless, in the air. It won't last. It never lasts. The earth is going to start pulling them back down again, they'll have to come back to ground. But for now...]
[For now, he can shut his eyes. Feel that brief heartbeat of weightlessness. It's as close to home, to the stars, as he'll get here.]
[He feels the plane start to tilt. Again, Shiro opens his eyes, the moment passed. Engines are re-engaged. They don't go into any kind of sharp dive. It's more of a shallow dip before he pulls them out of it again.]
