There's an insect pokemon that has mushrooms growing on its back. The mushrooms are parasitic, and when the pokemon evolves, they take over, draining the insect of nutrients and controlling the body. If the mushroom is removed after that point, the insect remains inert.

It only seems to affect that one pokemon.

Rabies is the worst. The animals where I'm from get it and you can't tell they have it until it's too late! It makes you go crazy and then you die because your brain turns into mush.
